Think of a lifeboat drifting along on the sea, aimlessly heading where the waves take it. It arrives to shore as it drifted along by the force of the waves. What if we are in our life boat? If we drift aimlessly, we are unsure where we will end up.
To be master in our lives, we have to steer our boat to find shores we want to land, by finding our deeper meaning. If we drift along in our life, we take twists and turns we weren’t sure of and unsure where we will end up.
The key to Simple Living is to be the master of our destiny, to make sure, deliberate choices so we are not wandering aimlessly through our life.
When we have to make choices, I find this rule of thumb helps – wait 24 hours to make your decision. Rather than accept an invitation, use the standard phrase “I’ll have to check my schedule and get back to you”. This gives you time to feel in your heart and your gut if the choice is aligned with your deeper meaning. Then if the choice is not in alignment, become comfortable with saying no.
Allow yourself time to reflect on your deeper meaning, and make choices that are in alignment with it.
